Leah Lucas, LICSW
Equine Therapist
Leah is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years of experience serving children, families, and communities through compassionate, trauma-informed care. She earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Alabama in 2005 and holds extensive specialization in foster care and adoption, marriage and family dynamics, trauma, and child abuse and neglect.
Her professional background includes serving as a caseworker and supervisor with Marshall County DHR, where she supported children and families involved in the child welfare system. Leah also works as a home study specialist and foster/adoptive parent trainer with Alabama Pre/Post Adoption Connections (APAC), preparing families for the adoption journey. In addition, she provides faith-based, trauma-informed therapy to individuals and couples through a nonprofit counseling ministry, and has delivered behavioral health services to older adults in both assisted living and long-term care settings.
Throughout her career, Leah has led and contributed to several high-impact initiatives. She co-led the 2019 Not Alone Conference in Albertville and Huntsville, Alabama, an event designed to challenge mental health stigma within churches and the broader community. She also co-led a workshop at the AACC World Conference in Nashville on attachment styles, marriage dynamics, and the Enneagram, presented to over 400 mental health professionals and ministry leaders. Leah co-planned an intensive equine-assisted workshop for law enforcement officers and social workers, featuring abduction survivor Jaycee Dugard, focused on trauma-informed care for crime victims and strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration.
She is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and has received training in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy through the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA). Leah enjoys integrating frameworks such as the Enneagram and attachment theory to foster deeper insight into core motivations and enhance opportunities for personal growth and relational healing.
Leah is proud to support the mission of the Kids to Love Foundation, whose work to heal trauma, build resilience, and empower youth and families aligns with her own values and experience. Guided by faith and compassion, Leah remains deeply committed to equipping individuals, families, and professionals with the tools for healing, connection, and lasting transformation.
